It was so sunny, the air so comfortably warm and Fall-fresh that the bikers who showed up to support the Rocky Mountain Deaf School (RMDS) were totally stoked. A more beautiful day to ride at this late date in the year would be a rare day indeed. I know many of you were riding Saturday Nov 7th, cause we saw tons of you out on the road. At some places, Red Rocks Park for example, it was downright crowded with bikers, bicyclists, hikers, dogs and all sorts of other critters and activities that make a little ole' Poker Run for Charity exciting and fun. The Second Annual, Bikers Supporting RMDS Run was a smaller success this year than last - due mainly to having to be postponed from it's original date. Remember that really snowy, really cold weekend we had October 10th? Well a poker run would not have been much fun that weekend, so it was changed to the Nov 7th date. Unfortunately for all the riders who did not show up - it was an absolutely gorgeous day and ride, better organized than last years run. The food was good and the party at the Barn in Evergreen was even better than before (and last year's party was pretty cool too.) This year much of the entertainment was supplied by some of the elementary school students themselves. Seems they've developed quite a few performers amongst the 40 or so deaf students who attend RMDS. They performed skits, told stories in American Sign Language (with an interpreter speaking English on a microphone for those of us who don't read sign) and even performed dances. They were awesome! Grownups enjoyed the mc ride, silent auction and poker run, while smaller children played at a variety of fun activities, including mud from the snow melt. A really great day with lots of fun in the sun for all involved for sure! Of course, it's all about the kids anyway - they desperately need a new school building. The kids and staff have had to move 4 times in the past few years. They are trying to build a permanent home for the school.
